What happens next?
You will receive a link/QR Code as part of the team placement cert.
From there, you will receive your team placement pack, with dates and details of the season.
You must ACCEPT your position by the end of this week or your place will be forfeited to another athlete. There will be no waiting for any athletes after Sunday as summer training begins next week.
Summer Training schedule will be different from your Season 13 and Season 14 schedule.
Our classes will be split into levels for stunting on a weeknight, and levels for tumbling on a Saturday. Specialty classes are available for booking such as private tumble or other tumble group. Our full Season 14 schedule will kick in from August 8th when we return to training after the summer break. Please plan other season activities around your August Schedule NOT your summer schedule.
Is there anything else we need to do now?
You need to start training the summer conditioning plan asap. Athletes must be capable of the work we ask of them in order to safely build their skills. This requires more than 2 classes a week, it requires an adjustment to lifestyle. Imagine what you could do if your body was not limited by weaknesses such as lack of flexibility or strength. It is imperative that athletes start working now to be capable of their routines in September.
When you are prompted at the end of the month, you must update your parent portal with current details, agree to the club policies with specific reference to attendance, payment dates and what happens if you choose to end your season early. There is no excuse for not understanding your commitment and that you are signing a legal contract for the duration of the season.
What if the athlete is not happy with their placement?
Usually there are 2 reasons for athletes to be unhappy with team placements.
1. They believe they should be on a higher level.
2. They only want to cheer with their friends from their current team.
There are a couple of very important answers to each of these. Please read them twice.
1. They would not be placed on a level lower than what they are capable of by coaches who want their teams to succeed. If they are on a level 2 team for example and want to be on a level 3 team, please confirm that they have the skills necessary for that level before approaching a coach. If an athlete is just learning the lower end of the skills necessary for a level, they should be on the level below until they can successfully and SAFELY hit those skills. If they are on the cusp on a higher level, they may be offered a crossover team, meaning they would train 2 teams. If they choose not to crossover, they will be on the lower level team as that is the team selected for them based on their capability and safety.
2. If an athlete only wants to cheer with their current friends, then cheer is not for them. Cheer is about teamwork, building bonds and trusting your teammates. Athletes need to be able to work with other athletes at their skill level and their age group.
Please remember that the friends they don't want to leave are all friends they made by joining cheer. They will have the opportunity to train alongside them in the club as cheer family, but more importantly, they will make new friends that will become equally as important over the next season and expand their network of friends and peers. It's all part of growth within the sport.
Once athletes meet their new teams (during summer training, starting next month) you will find they gel with their new friends quickly if they are willing to try.
Some athletes purposely do not make any effort in the hopes they will be moved to a team with their friends. This will not help.
If you wish to crossover and have not been placed on a 2nd team, please contact us to see if there is a fit we think would work.
What clothing do I need?
All summer you will need a CHEER BOW, Cheer Trainers, and any Stuntworx apparel.
You are part of the club and need to look the part at every training session.
If you are new to the club, you will need our current uniform which will need to be ordered this summer.
If you are a returning athlete, you need to ensure you have your full uniform for the team you are placed on - you can potentially buy a used uniform. We will give you details of athletes in your size who are selling theirs.
SUMMIT AND WORLDS TEAMS
Our Summit athletes will not be placed until July 1st. So if you have the skills but haven't received a place on that team, it doesn't mean anything.
Our Worlds athletes are placed immediately and will be required to pay a deposit on July 1st to retain their space and organise choreography in advance. This will be detailed further in your team placement pack.
Best of luck with your new season! We can't wait for you to meet our new Coach and we look forward to seeing you thrive in 2024!
